In a country with consumers addicted in “best of”´s – a guy like Rodrigo Alves had no choice but offering pearls to pigs.... His third CD has an unique beauty...offering a new reality to our ears.
Working with extremely well arranged compositions, he demonstrates balance between magic and concrete, showing plain awareness of how much arguments of harmony and melody can affect our senses. The use of natural harmonics as fundamental element in the stunning “The Joy of the Boy With His Toy” is briliant, the lightness of “Presence of Angels” and the spanish atmosphere of “Stirs” sounds like relief to our anguishes and worries.. Other peculiarities of new formats are shown in the amazingly precise fingerstyle of “Trees”, “Ivo, the Dog” e “Caminho para Ilha Caraguatá”.
It is probable that even this guitarist himself is not aware of the measure of his sensibility, which is present in the sweetness of “Leaf” e “Volitar” . Maybe that´s what makes of "Spiritua" a one-of-a-kind record...

"...Rodrigo´s persona of writing and performing is all there, with smoothness and passion, simplicity and fine taste .However, what calls our attention the most is - no pun intended - the state of spirit. Rodrigo transmits a new moment of his life all along the record, a new way to see and realize things...All the music variation is just an excuse for the umlimited imagination of Rodrigo Alves. Don´t miss it."

"Rodrigo Alves' third solo CD, Spiritua, is the best well musically resolved of his records. Rodrigo has anchored his ships in safety, smoothly stoplighting his acoustic guitar playing, which is sounding better than never. Despite the label of 'new age', "Spiritua" goes far beyond, showcasing Brazilian music and other elements. Highlights would be "The Joy Of The Boy With His Toy" with its unusual tuning and the bright Our Little Corner. Another good surprise is the song These Lazy Days featuring singer Renata Capellas."

"Brazilian guitarist Rodrigo Alves is back with an all instrumental CD of pop and jazz-inflicted tunes, entitled "Retratos". Alves plays a little more acoustic than on his debut CD "Suddenly", but uses a hollow-bodied electric to get some great tones as well...For pure acoustic guitar beauty, it would be tough to top the closing track "Vila Do Sossêgo", with its chiming harmonics and evocative melody...A mature and thoughtful collection of melodies that create utterly subtle variations of mood"

"A gifted player, Alves can express moods and emotions with relative ease - he combines technique and tonal variety to set a variety of aural scenes...'Suddenly' delivers music that sustains the soul and excites the consciousness."

"...the sound of Rodrigo is a lot interesting...The specialized midia fullfilled him with complimments by the occasional of the 'Suddenly' CD release. It won't be different now...Everything in his music happens in the right time and place...His compositions are simple and beautiful, direct and good to listen...He surrenders with so much passion...creating tender and moving textures and melodies. He plays strings and keys very well, and mainly, conceives very well. Like in the beautiful "Chuvisco" ("Drizzle"), the listener can guess the thin rain dropping on the window, intermitent the harmony finger picked by the acoustic guitar and poured by the notes of the keyboard. Pure melancholy, quickly interrupted by the joyful "Dois Passarinhos" (Two Little Birds"). And so it goes, altering sensations, all exposed with vigor and acuteness..."Retratos" is a beautiful record, that consolidates the quality of Rodrigo Alves' music, reafirms his career in the right path and, mainly, gives the listener a lot of pleasure."

"Incredible, impressing...the 15 instrumental compositions are creative, and the graphic design is great (for each song there's an illustration and a quotation - mostly from philosophers and poets)...Attention record labels: this demo must be turned into, at least 1000 CDs!"
